Our new CD

We're proud to launch our new CD:
How can I keep from singing?

Here's what our music director has to say about it: "Outstanding singers, beautiful repertoire, an experience of a lifetime concert tour... These are the factors that inspired the South Shore Children's Chorus to record its first compact disc."

After hosting the Southend Girls' Choir in July 2000, the South Shore Children's Chorus completed the exchange with a two-week tour of England in July 2001. Our young choristers experienced the thrill of singing an a cappella concert on the altar steps in the majestic Canterbury Cathedral, sang a Sunday Service at St. Martin's Church where St. Augustine worshipped, represented Canada proudly at the Maidstone Music Festival with choirs from Britain and Hong Kong, and performed both at Canada House in London and in Southend-on-Sea.

The soaring lines of John Rutter's I Will Sing with the Spirit inspire the listener, while the beautiful melodies of Canadian composers Eleanor Daley (The Birds and the arrangement of a Newfoundland Folk Song The Blooming Star of Belle Isle) and Ruth Watson Henderson (My Heart Soars), were chosen to reflect our country's musical wealth and scenic beauty. Our title selection, How Can I Keep From Singing, combines a sensitive folk hymn with the well-loved Amazing Grace. Here's To Song captures what it means to be in a choir. "Kings have riches widely lain. Lords have lands, but then again, we have friends and song no wealth can buy."
